Mountain
By far the poorest and least integrated province in Trapalanda. 60% of the population is made up of the two indigenous ethnic groups, the Novis and Mutus, buried in the various mountain valleys. The Mutus make up about 70% of the indigenous population and the Novis are concentrated in the eastern portion of the province near the Novis towns of the Great Plains. In fact, the border between the Great Plains and the Mountain Province largely does not exist for the Novis as they move from town to town looking for work in the regions’ mines.
The capital Mos Eisley is a majority Rufus (red-head and freckled complexion) town despite the Brunus (indigenous populations of dark hair) being the majority in the province. Further, the municipal government overseas the robust and massive contraband trade that links this province to the country immediately to the West on the other side of the mountain known as Vetitus. The beneficiaries of this contraband, which is largely run out of the pub Chalmun's Cantina, are the Rufus who have only a transactional relationship with Alderaan and are deeply protective of their autonomy.
During the revolution, the Mutus and the Novis were largely uninvolved. The smugglers in Mos Eisley trafficked weapons for the independence effort, but also maintained backchannels with the Summus colonial authorities in case the rebels were snuffed out.
The Mutus are the least educated group in Trapalanda, have high rates of alcoholism and spousal abuse, and least likely to send their children, especially females, to university. Poverty rates are three times higher among the Mutus and the literacy rates are half of those of the residents of Mos Eisley.
In terms of the economy, the Mountain Province is famous for its pine nuts and hallucinogenic mushrooms and their is a vibrant market for both. The latter has been used for centuries by the Brunus in their religious ceremonies and incantations despite being viewed as a despised practice by the Rufus. More importantly are the untapped mines in the eastern portion of the province alongside the border with the Great Plains.
